The true price of beauty

LIFE...
(I cut my hair so its shoulder-length...even though not so clear with the Blanche's camera)
Jacket = Zara

Cardigan = Zara
Tank Top = H&M
Leggings = Zara
Arm Candy = Accesorize
Shoes = Welsh Boutique

I went to an ACS debate yesterday and the topic was based on society's idea on true beauty. In my opinion, the debate was not handled well and the leaders focused more on physical aesthetic beauty than would have been appreciated.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...
And NO, that's not just what they tell ugly people! In the words of a good friend, unless one is truly content inwardly, one will ALWAYS seek to fix this or that...
Prime example?...

Heidi Montag! I mean, this chic was BAD ASS in Season 1 of The Hills until she went under the knife, and since then, there has been no turning back. Can u believe this chica wants MORE done? WOW!
Vanity upon vanity, all is vanity. *shrugs*

FASHION...
Last weekend I totally needed a break, I felt like I was on the verge of a meltdown...so I took a spontaneous trip to visit my sister in Prestatyn, Wales. That place is my solace, I swear, and my sister is my angel! We went on numerous shopping expeditions...
The first was to an outlet mall, like a catalogue clearout. This store had (as well as the photos below) Steve Madden heels going for £30+...I mean, KILL ME NOW!
As well as the outlet mall, we went to Cheshire Oaks, which is a little place I have renamed 'Heaven on Earth'! That place is to DIE for! Its got like Designer brands and high street all in one circular maze, but the catch...unlike Westfields or West End? Cheshire Oaks has EVERYTHING MASS REDUCED!! There were Calvin Klien bags and Ralph Lauren merchandise going for high street prices?!? I mean...KILL ME NOW!! (Shame I was broke though.. :( My sis treated me however)
Here are a few of my proud purchases, I'm guessing you guys will be seeing the rest in outfit posts to come :)
Orangey Winter Coat...HEY! Its STILL cold in Manchester...
And twas only £10! And there was a 25% weekend sale as well! AHH so twas for £7.50!
This red blazer is actually for petite so it comes up short on me but it made me love it all the more. Also, it only has one button which is rare...and for £5 (further 25% sale knocking it to £3-maths isn't too great) it was a MUST HAVE!

ACCESSORIES! Apart from the perma-bracelets I eat, sleep and die with...I don't really wear accessories anymore :(
Such a shame as I have a VAST collection of bangles, chunky necklaces, etc from a few seasons ago where it was 'all the rage'. But when I saw these beauties? I HAD to have! :)
This season, as mentioned in A Spring in my Step, I'm totally influenced by the romantic era. So be ready to see TONS of chiffon, lace, nude, neutral and pastel colours as well as FLORALS! I'm abandoning my fringe next week & I'm SO ready to abandon the masculine, punk-rock look it baggaged with it and embrace the femininity of spring :)

CULTURE...
I went to see Soloman Kane while in Prestatyn. I wasn't that keen to begin with as all actors were unknown but soon I was moved by the plot and mesmerised by the smoke and mirror action scenes. I must recommend this movie as its message is strong and subliminally religious. And in a growingly atheist society, movies such as this deserve some credit...
I also saw Tropic Thunder...JOKES!
And Vicki Christina Barcelona...rather disappointed by the ending but still a must-see! I must contrast it to 500 Days of Summer which is on my fave lists now :) THAT is a must-see!

YeYe says...embrace who you are, the way you are. Xisses

About to go Cold Turkey!

Ok hunnies....so my church failed to inform and thus prepare me for the Lenting period this week...bleurgh! And so it came as a complete shock to me last night on Twitter (which now acts as my daily informer. That's where I 1st heard about the Nigerian Bomber!! Give thanks lol) when a hunny mentioned "Pancake Day tomorrow"...

TODAY IS PANCAKE DAY and I was clueless on what to give up. In the past, I have fasted (successfully but with dire effects as I got a stomach ulcer as a result of doing it unhealthily), given up eating past a certain time....
But I have to say, THIS year's may just be THE most trying :(
My flatmates have challeneged me to give up my 'Fat Draw'. Now, Bleurghers, I dont think you fully understand the extent to which this draw's fame has reached...this year twas even extended to a Snack CUPBOARD! Full of fizzy drinks, crisps, chocolates, popcorn, sweets of every kind, ETC...
And now? Not only do I have to sacrifice and baby and the happiness it brings...but also SNACKS in general!
I was going PSYCHO and made a Bleurgh (private kind) that I actually decided to share to express the manicness I'm feeling atm...

Wish you all, a non-grouchy 40 days and 40 Nights...
YeYe says...BLEURGH! 40 Days of sacrificing earthly things is immeasurable in comaprison to an eternity we hope to live in, in heaven...this is just a small step closer. Xisses

loVe Day!

Happy Valentines Day Bleurghers!!!
Or in the words of a good friend, Happy Singles Awareness Day (S.A.D)
Yup! Cos we can kid ourselves all 364 days of the year, stating our satisfaction and contentment in being single. We can go on endless GNO's (Translation: Girls' Night Out) and claim we are just dressing up and looking pretty for ourselves. But in the lead-up days, BEFORE Valentine's Day...when all a faithful consumer like myself wishes to do is hit the shops and indulge in some much needed retail therapy, one can't help but feel down at the sight of all the pink and red balloons aimlessly floating. Or the bright red streamers linking stores together...or perhaps the sight of huge cards and teddy bears being held by retarded teenagers who don't know the pain of heartbreak and are oblivious to the real world
....

BLEURGH!

I mean, don't get me wrong! I'm not a cynic or like an Anti-Valentine dude...I guess, quite simply, I'm just a bitter black woman who's single of this ever loving day LMAO! Don't feel bad or sad for me...its just one day right? I mean, come tomorrow, I will be back on my rant and rave on the pleasantness of singledom, etc...lol

Anyways...went to see Valentine's Day with YaYa and the girlies on the day of release (12.02.2010) at the 11:45 viewing, after indulging in a meal I truly wish I didn't lol....
Twas quite good and I definitely recommend it...the plot twists and underlying message was worth paying. The humour was ON POINT!! I have to say, I was that awkward kid laughing out loud in a rather silent cinema...yup! QUITE embarassing *blushes* The star-studded cast also had me finger-pointing the entire way through the movie...ALSO quite embarrassing *blushes*. YaYa shamefully
slept...shame on her!
Bleurgh's MUST SEE!
YeYe says...BLEURGH! Leave this day for the loving. We have every other day to be single...Xisses

The Rise of Africa...

Hola hunnies!! I'm beyond bored and well, I have a free day tomorrow :)
So I just thought to share some thoughts (bleurghs) with you before I hit the sack to catch some kip.
Ok?
So...life has been interesting as of late. I've been dealt a few false cards and all I've had to do was pull a bluff and blag my way through the game of life. And sure as hell, this crap just isn't easy :(
I was called out by my friend recently, for not following the advice i state on my blog...but HEY! Easier said than done right? It's hard to just brush something important off and move on....but I'm trying. It's even harder to let go of certain things that you've part-built a persona on...but hey! Nothing's impossible.
See...the way I see it. Life can be looked at optimistically or pessimistically...(depending on my mood)

OPTIMISTICALLY? Life is full of ups and downs but we eventually make it through, carving our way in the world. I see  myself having a great career as a Barrister (God willing) with a family and a happy married life (*yawns*) with a prospect of artistic projects on the side that will
1) reflect my obsessions of that decade lol
2) make my mark on this world lol

However...
PESSIMISTICALLY? Life is a dead end, ending in just that...DEATH!  No matter how many lives we shape by mere acquaintance, or how many decisions we change by mere utterance of opinion...inevitably, we all die. Its sad and an icky topic to discuss, but its the truth.

All I hope is to continue to live and work int he light that when I DO die or whatever...I will be remembered in a good way, not as a bitch or a  backstabber, or some careless psycho.

ON TO THE NEXT ONE...

As a dear and innovative soul of fashion passed away, I thought it only right to pay homage to Alexander McQueen when i stumbled on a far more uplifting sight...ANKARA
Now, I've not always adored or appreciated Ankara in the way I am about to. Infact, as a kid, I HATED it! My mother would try and force me to wear it to events and the thought of embarassment infront of fickle-minded teenagers turned me right to my Western ways of trousers (as the tomboy I was would NOT let me wear skirts or dresses...lol goodtimes)
But here we are, a good decade on...and the likes of Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Fergie, etc are all wearing it. Gorgeous!
I also stumbled upon Boxing Kitten. Check it out...

every Naij movie known to man (no exaggeration lol)...

So I was more than happy when facebook browsing my friend's pages
(Don't judge me, I was NOT stalking you lol) and saw this link...like dude!
 I'm just happy cos the script goes wider than
 an "Americana" back home/ Juju/ Prostitution in Nigerian
Universities....atleast this movie is worth a script and perhaps,
even the video camera that recorded it
 (which is more than I can say for more than 50% of Naija homevideos lol)...
ENJOY!!

YeYe says...BLEURGH! Let's make our mark on the world by shaping our future...think optimistically :)
